SNAP opens appointments for heating assistance
SPOKANE (12/10/15) – SNAP opened the second round of heating assistance appointments for the 2015/16 heating season on December 8. The appointments are available to those who have not yet received heating assistance since October 1, 2015.
Eligible Spokane County individuals can call (509) 242-2376 or go to snapwa.org to make an appointment starting at 8:30 am on December 8th. SNAP has six appointment locations in the Spokane area including Cheney, Airway Heights and the Spokane Valley. “We have over 3000 appointment slots still available for this round,” said Carol Weltz, Energy Operations Coordinator. “Even though we are experiencing a warmer than usual winter, we know there are still people that struggle to provide heat in their homes.” Heating assistance can help a struggling household free up money to pay for other essential expenses like food or rent – a shut-off notice is NOT required to receive heating assistance.
About SNAP Energy Assistance
The SNAP Energy Assistance program was designed to help eligible households ease the financial impact of a portion of heating costs. Spokane County households are eligible for this program once per heating season or while funding is available. The funding for this program comes from several funding sources including Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funded through the Washington State Department of Commerce, and Low Income Rate Assistance Program (LIRAP) funded through a tariff on area utility bills.
