Earlier this year, we introduced you to Kurt and his three daughters, who he describes as the center of his world. As a dedicated single dad, he made a courageous choice, relocating his family from Alaska to Spokane back in 2019.
Kurt’s journey took an unexpected turn when the Covid-19 pandemic struck. Like countless others, the family experienced financial challenges, yet Kurt remained unshaken as he worked to meet his daughters’ needs.
He took the initiative to apply for and successfully received both food benefits and SNAP Energy Assistance, which provided over $700 in financial relief during 2021.
Even in the face of adversity, Kurt maintained a positive outlook. “I inject humor into every facet of our lives,” he shared. He even tried his hand at stand-up comedy at the Spokane Comedy Club.
Kurt crossed paths with SNAP again at a resource fair held at Rogers High School. SNAP Outreach Specialist Ty Peterson introduced Kurt to the Washington Working Families Tax Credit (WFTC) and walked him through the application process. The result was a full refund that Kurt used to further support his family.
Kurt sees SNAP as a lifeline for his family, providing them with the priceless gift of quality time together.
Today, Kurt and his daughters are thriving. His flexible work schedule provides him with the opportunity to be there for his children before and after school, fostering their success in both academic and extracurricular activities. Two of his daughters have embraced the cello, while one has discovered her passion for ice skating. All three are actively engaged in Taekwondo.
