DAD’S DAY DASHER BECOMES A SNAP CLIENT
As a frequent flyer at SNAP’s Dad’s Day Dash, David has enjoyed four of the last five races held by SNAP. David frequents local races, always trying to best his own performances and keep his effort going to stay healthy. Since 2019, David has diligently completed the Manito Park-based 5k event, often following up with the team after the event to give kudos, tips, or to share the pictures that one of his sons, a professional photographer, kindly took of him on course as a Father’s Day gift in 2022.
What David did not anticipate during any of these journeys through the park was that he would one day be looking to SNAP for assistance. But in late 2023, we received the most gracious feedback from David thus far: “I am writing to commend you on your tremendous customer service.”
David’s email went on to explain that he learned of SNAP’s energy assistance programs while attending church in Deer Park. As a legal guardian of another adult son, Andrew, David hadn’t considered turning to SNAP for help in the past. However, knowing that his son is living with disabilities and on a fixed income, he decided to reach out.
“I JUST ALWAYS TRY TO TREAT OTHERS THE WAY I WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED, BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT SOMEONE IS GOING THROUGH.” – Marie, SNAP Energy Specialist
Marie, a long-time SNAP Energy Specialist, quickly responded to his request. David was impressed with Marie’s swift and thorough responses, noting that she eliminated many of the hoops that he often has to jump through to access other resources for Andrew.
“Now that I know what part of my entry fee supports, I am glad I participate in the run.” – David
Less than two months following that initial contact, and David is very grateful for the support for Andrew. His rent and living expenses have increased immensely recently, but according to David, “The assistance from SNAP is a godsend!” Andrew’s energy bills have been covered and he shows a credit on his account.
This full circle moment is important and promising to us at SNAP. We know many donors may from time to time need to turn to SNAP for financial help, for themselves, a family member, or a neighbor.
Seeing SNAP’s work from the client’s side is often eye-opening and appreciated, as it has been for David. He plans to join the 2024 Dad’s Day Dash, and the others to follow it, plugging away to best his personal times and stay active. But now he has an additional motivation to support this important fundraiser, one that is personal. “Now that I know what part of my entry fee supports, I am glad I participate in the run.”
