At SNAP, our energy-efficiency work is called our Weatherization program. The program targets existing residential and multifamily housing occupied by qualified low-income residents. We provide a wide variety of energy-efficiency measures that encompass the building as a whole, its heating and cooling systems, its electrical system, and electricity consuming appliances. Our skilled inspectors will visit your dwelling to determine the most cost-effective measures for it. Typical weatherization measures might include:
- Reduce drafts with caulking and weather stripping
- Improve ventilation
- Install insulation in ceilings and attics, exterior walls and basements
- Vent exterior roofs
- Tune, clean and repair furnaces to improve efficiency
- Repair or install water heaters, pipe, and duct insulation
- Repair windows and doors
We also check for health and safety hazards, including:
- Testing for carbon monoxide levels
- Installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors where necessary
- Checking for asbestos and lead paint hazards
We will explain the proper use and maintenance of all systems we install.
SNAP contracts with the Federal Departments of Health and Human Services and Department of Energy, Bonneville Power Administration, Washington State Matchmakers, and Avista Utilities to provide these services.
The SNAP weatherization program currently has a waiting list of 1-2 years for home weatherization.
Applications are processed in the order that they are received.
