To Our Neighbors,
My name is Mel, and I work at SNAP’s Homeless Services office.
There’s a jar of keys on my desk.
Every time someone walks out of our office with a new lease, a fresh start, a safe place to sleep—I add one to the wall. We call it our Key Board, and each one tells a story.

Key Board at SNAP Pacific Avenue Office
- A young adult who knows they won’t have to worry about frostbite this winter.
- A senior who spent years outside, now picking out curtains for his new apartment.
- A survivor who left everything behind and is starting over—on her own terms.
Last year, we added 228 keys to that wall. And thanks to our partners at SNAP Financial Access, 376 more families stayed in their homes and avoided foreclosure.
I wish you could see it in person.
But even if this is your first time hearing about us, I hope you’ll feel how much your presence in this community matters.
SNAP is built on the belief that all of us deserve safety, dignity, and a place to call home. And when neighbors come together to support one another – through kindness, advocacy, or generosity – something powerful happens.
As Community Action Month wraps up, we simply invite you to learn more about this work and consider how you might be a part of it – now or in the future.
Because it’s not just me doing this work
It’s all of us.
And together? We hold the key to what’s possible.
With gratitude,
Mel
SNAP Homeless Services Team
P.S. Whether you’re receiving services, giving support, or sharing our story, thank you for being part of a community that believes in each other.
