MAY 17-23

SNAP is Spokane County’s ONLY Community Action Agency. Throughout May, we all celebrate Community Action Month and the critical work SNAP does in our community. Just last year, SNAP served 41,107 Spokane County neighbors, guiding them to live, learn, and thrive.

Join me in supporting SNAP this month; donations to the endowment will be matched, as will a 3-year pledge to the endowment up to $100!

Did you know that 4 out of every 5 families in America are living paycheck-to-paycheck?

These are our neighbors, and over 41,100 of them received help from SNAP last year. This month, Spokane’s only Community Action Agency is asking for your support. I’m privileged to serve with SNAP and witness the impact they have on our community.

I hope you can join me in donating to support our neighbors: www.snapwa.org/camonth

Housing has been a challenge for nearly everybody in Spokane County. Our unhoused neighbors faced particular challenges during the pandemic. SNAP’s homeless services team was hard at work last year, and was able to transition 246 people from homelessness to permanent housing. Not only that, but the homeless outreach team partnered with clinicians to provide medical assessments to our unhoused community. Thank you, @SNAPSpokane, for the work you do to support our neighbors! #CAMonth #CommunityActionMonth #CAWorks #WeR1000Strong #NeighborsByYourSide

When Desire (pronounced Des-er-ay) first found out about SNAP, she was 19-years-old and a single mom looking for a safe place to live and raise her baby. She received help to become basic needs secure, but that was not the end of her journey! She occasionally received support for energy assistance and received weatherization. Once again, in 2015, she worked with SNAP to start her small business so she could truly thrive and reach her full potential. Learn more about Desire’s story here: https://www.snapwa.org/array-of-snap-services-helps-single-mom-live-learn-and-thrive/

If you feel compelled by Desire’s store, I encourage you to donate to SNAP in celebration of Community Action Month!

Community Action Agencies, like SNAP, work to support neighbors while fighting poverty within the community. Last year, SNAP provided energy assistance to 11,170 households, stabilizing these households with warmth and care. There are more than 30 additional programs SNAP provides that helps fight poverty in our community- join me in supporting their critical community work!

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our vulnerable neighbors struggled to find safe access to food. SNAP’s transportation services were able to step in and provide 695 rides aimed to increase food security among low-income neighbors. This is an example of the innovation, adaptability, and community-minded focus SNAP brings to Spokane County.

Throughout May, we celebrate Community Action Agencies like SNAP. I hope you join me in supporting SNAP: www.snapwa.org/camonth

Thanks to generous donations from BECU, First Interstate Bank, and Itron, the first $7,000 in donations to SNAP’s endowment will be matched! The Endowment Fund helps secure SNAP’s long-term future, and with SNAP serving 1-in-10 Spokane County neighbors each year, this is a future we need to protect!

AND thanks to an anonymous donor, a 3-year pledge to the endowment will be matched (up to $100). These are two great ways to support SNAP’s critical work in these final days of Community Action Month.

Last year was a challenge for so many in our community. Even still, SNAP was able to support first-time homebuyers purchase 133 homes… during a pandemic! This is an example of the impact SNAP has in the community to work on long-term solutions to ending poverty. Homeownership is an instrumental way to build wealth and stability… and SNAP provided this for 133 households!

I hope you will consider me in supporting SNAP This month: www.snapwa.org/camonth
