We asked how you pay it forward. Here are some stories:
"My father-in-law used to take down turkeys to the Union Gospel Mission and when he passed away many, many years ago my mother-in-law started to do the same thing. Well a year ago she passed away and with the need so high, I, her son, and our grown children are going to donate a couple of turkeys."
"People have been very generous to me. I "pay it forward" by donating hand made items to Project Warm-Up and other charities."
"This morning the man in line ahead of me at the Starbucks drive-through paid for my coffee, so I'll take that $5 and probably drop it into a Salvation Army bucket."
"When I was newly divorced and living off Disability Social Security, SNAP helped me with my eletrical bills so my Grandson and I could be warm in the winter. Now I work for SNAP and can give back weekly in helping others on the phone and to encourage my church to give blankets to the homeless in Spokane so no one has to walk away into the cold without a blanket. Thank You so much for all that you do for our community."
"We were able to collect 2,480 pounds of food and a check for $901.00 to give to the 2nd Harvest Food Bank. We asked our employees to help in collecting the food and they were happy to help."
A group of Gonzaga students, who volunteer for Campus Kitchens Project, collected and donated complete Thanksgiving meals for 35 of SNAP’s homeless families last week.
"Over 39 years ago I was living in Yakima as a single mother with 2 small children. I had a partime weekend night job and was attending classes at the Junior College taking 25 credit hours. My rental house was heated with propane and I had a wood fireplace. However, I had no wood and no propane. My babysitter was a member of a local church and they were generous enough to fill my propane tank and someone left wood on my porch. I was so grateful for their help that when I moved to Spokane, it seemed natural to get a job with an agency that helped people with heating bills. It was known at that time as Catholic Charities, later as Spokane Neighborhood Centers, and now as SNAP. Though I get a paycheck each month from SNAP, I have never forgotten that sometimes regular people need a little help. Thank you SNAP for giving me a great place to work."
"I had been at a low point in my life when my employer and SNAP stepped forward to help me...SNAP took over finding me a bank that would loan me the money. T...hey took a big chance on me. I wasn't a good candidate for a loan or anything else at the time and they were successful...My point is to never give up believing in your dreams. There is someone or some organization out there to believe in them with you. I have been truly blessed by the faith everyone has had in me and I hope I can someday repay that by giving someone else hope for fulfilling their dreams."
