Households must:

  • have a current Avista gas or electric account
  • must be a person age 60 or over, with the account in the senior's name
  • CANNOT be eligible for Energy Assistance
  • Must be between 126% and 150% of poverty.  If the household is over these guidelines, non-reimbursed medical expenses can be considered

Total household income is based on 200% of the federal poverty guidelines , with consideration given to medical expenses. The maximum amount of assistance is $200.

Household grants are set at $300.00 for Avista heated homes and $100.00 for Avista non-heated homes.

Households are eligible for this program once per year (Oct. 1st through Sept. 30th). Although a household is eligible only once per heating season for Senior assistance, there may be other programs (other than energy assistance) that a household may qualify for, in addition.

Senior Assistance requests can be done over the phone or in person.  Call the office that serves your zip code.

If  your household is not eligible or if funds are no longer available, SNAP will refer you to an appropriate resource.

Although a household may only receive assistance once per year, it may qualify for the Senior Program and another program during the year, and therefore receive assistance twice during the year.
