Energy Assistance Program Nears End for Season
Having served nearly 16,500 households, SNAP’s Energy Assistance program will come to a close for the season in mid-June. Over 8 million, 325 thousand dollars has been distributed for all forms of SNAP energy help.
“We urge anyone who has not received the help they need to contact us now,” according to Margaret Belote, Director of SNAP’s Energy Assistance program. “About 400 appointments can still be scheduled until our funds are depleted for this season.”
The 2008-2009 energy assistance program has broken all records in terms of dollars distributed and households served.
SNAP phone lines are open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This schedule will continue until funds are spent. The phone number is 242-2376.
During the current program year, repairs or replacements have been made on 165 furnaces. Emergency help has been given to over 3 thousand households that were facing shut-off notices or had run out of oil or other heating fuel.
SNAP energy assistance services are available to those who live within Spokane County.
