International District Clean Up Day Successful
About 30 volunteers worked together in a clean up effort in the International District on Friday, May 15th. Neighbors and business owners cooperated by working to spruce up their yards and storefronts to make the day a success.
It was part of a neighborhood wide clean up campaign that extended throughout the East Central neighborhood.
The project was initiated by the East Central Neighborhood Steering Committee. The volunteer coordination was handled by Vibrant Communities, an economic development project established by SNAP, Impact Capital and the City of Spokane.
“These hard-working community volunteers showed tremendous pride in the neighborhood,” according to Holly Martin, economic development coordinator from SNAP. “This is the first of many projects which ultimately will establish an area filled with businesses with an International flavor that will bring new growth and stability.”
Volunteers completely filled the large dumpster while trucks were loaded with unneeded furniture which had been left on the curbside by homeowners. Over 51 hours of work was donated by volunteers to the project.
