Position Title: Accounting Technician I Grade: 7
Division: Finance
Department: Accounting FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Financial Director EEO: 2 (Professional)
Position Summary: Supports Agency programs and operations by performing professional level financial grant management, including financial records processing involving complex and specialized transaction. Responsible for financial program monitoring and reporting. Ensures work meets Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and is in compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and contracts.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepares, reviews, corrects, processes and/or reconciles financial documents and transactions including budgets, bank deposits, journal entries, and accounts payable/receivable.
2. Ensures financial transactions are in compliance with contracts, regulations, laws, policies, and GAAP.
3. Develops work/spread sheets and other financial documents. Maintains financial and accounting files and other records including logs, ledgers, journals, and databases.
4. Prepares and analyzes monthly account details, financial report, reimbursements, and cash flows. Makes regular reports to Financial Director regarding financial status of funds.
5. Performs detailed financial analyses of assigned funds including annual budget preparations, monitoring expenditures, identifying and forecasting financial discrepancies, and recommending solutions.
6. Effectively communicates with program managers regarding financial status of funds.
7. Identifies problems areas and solutions within the accounting process. Assists in the modification, development and implementation of financial procedures.
8. Performs work related to specialized areas, such as payroll or loans, as assigned.
9. Assists with the preparation of audits and year-end reports.
10. Works with coworkers and volunteers to promote a positive, respectful, and productive working environment, while protecting client confidentiality and dignity.
11. Operates copy machines, computers, fax machines, printers, and other office equipment.
12. Within the context of the stated principle job duties, serves as an ambassador of SNAP’s mission and values.
13. Completes assigned projects and performs related duties as needed or situation dictates.
Requirements:
Education and Experience
· Required: Associated Arts degree in a related field and minimum of two years experience
· Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in business management or related field,
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Thorough knowledge of accounting industry guidelines (GAAP) and accounting procedures; fund accounting experience preferred
· Computer proficiency, with working knowledge of Excel and accounting applications; skills in using computer systems to develop and maintain records, documents, and financial data
· Ability to develop and manage complex budgets, and ensure details are accurate and timely
· Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently using initiative and judgment to resolve problems and ensure workflow is appropriately addressed in a timely manner
· Ability to identify system problems and conceptualize and implement solutions
· Ability to research information and draft documents clearly and concisely
· Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with emphasis on effectively promoting a team environment and working with a diverse population
· Ability to empathize with and advocate for low-income households, and to maintain confidentiality with personal information
