SNAP is currently seeking an Resident Specialists to work in our Housing Improvement Division at the Collins Apartments. This position is a part-time position and open to all qualified individuals. Apartment is provided in exchange for being “on Call”, plus per hour wage for duties preformed. See attached position description for relevant job information.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Resident Specialist-Collins Apt. Grade: 3
Division: Housing Opportunities
Department: Property Management FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Reports to: Property Management Coordinator EEO Class: 9 (Service Workers)
Position Summary: Is responsible in assisting residents to quietly enjoy tenancy at the Collins Apartments. The Resident Specialist assists residents in resolving minor disputes and in keeping uninvited guests out of the building. The position promotes community concept among Collins residents helping to provide a clean, safe, friendly, and comfortable place for people to live. This is an on call position with an apartment provided in exchange for being on call. The RS will be paid hourly for hours worked either as scheduled or in response to a call.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responds to resident concerns and complaints regarding the disruption of quiet enjoyment of tenancy helps residents follow house rules. Responds to escalated and crisis situations as appropriate. Calls police or other professional when needed.
- Responds to fire alarm to help residents evacuate the building. Responds to security alarms according to policy and procedures.
- Distributes toilet paper, cleaning and hygiene products when necessary. Performs minor janitorial tasks on weekends to maintain clean restroom facilities.
- Helps residents identify repair needs and helps complete work order for repairs. Assists with minor maintenance duties (i.e. flipping breakers) while on call.
- Helps foster a positive residential experience characterized by open communication, expectations of quiet enjoyment and helping residents adapt to change.
- Works with local service providers and SNAP staff to integrate services on-site to the greatest extent possible.
- Conducts regular security, cleanliness, and safety checks in the building.
- Maintains incident logs and files. Reports concerns and issues to supervisor.
- Works to facilitate Resident Council at Collins.
- Helps maintain Crime Free Multi-Housing designations at the Collins.
- Provides input to management of best practices to facilitate resident retention.
- Help coordinate volunteer projects with residents and Collins Management Team.
- Works with coworkers and volunteers to promote a positive, respectful and productive working environment, while protecting client confidentiality and dignity.
- Within the context of the state principle job duties, serve as an ambassador of SNAP’s mission and values.
- Completes assigned projects and performs related duties as needed or situation dictates.
- Must be available for “on call” status on a regular basis as scheduled.
Requirements:
Education and Experience
· Required: High School graduate or equivalent and one year experience in social services or working with the public is required.
· Preferred: High School graduate or equivalent and two years experience in social services or similar
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Ability to empathize with and advocate for low-income and vulnerable people, and to maintain confidentiality with personal information
· Knowledge of landlord/resident, fair housing, and property management laws and regulations;
· Solid interpersonal skills with emphasis on effectively promoting socially adaptive behavior. Ability to work in a team environment, with a diverse population, and respond to crisis situations
· Ability to read, write and communicate clearly
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of service providers as well as volunteers
· Competency in computer operations, including email and word processing applications
Work Environment/Physical Activities:
Work is somewhat sedentary, performed mostly in a residential setting. Work will involve responding to situations in the evening and at night. Local travel will be required to attend meetings or site visits at other locations Scheduling requirements may change, and incumbent will be on-call. Building checks and inspections may involve exposure to seasonal heat and cold, dusty, wet, muddy, poorly ventilated and occasionally unsanitary environments.
