SNAP Client Featured in National Women’s Magazine
A Spokane single mother who nearly became homeless after a traffic accident is featured in a story in the most recent issue of Woman’s Day magazine. Pam Roberts became a SNAP client following her October 2001 crash which left her without a job and facing eviction from her residence.
The article entitled “The Night Everything Changed” is featured in the March 3, 2009, edition of the national woman’s magazine. It is now available on news stands in the Spokane area.
In the story, Roberts chronicles her life experiences from the time the accident occurred to her current situation. She credits SNAP with coming to her family’s rescue helping her during the six years of rehabilitation.
SNAP Homeless Program Coordinator Jennifer Martin remembers when Pam Roberts first visited a SNAP office and spoke with an intake worker who is no longer at SNAP.
“Pam’s story is not unlike many others that SNAP deals with on a regular basis,” Martin said. “However, public acknowledgement of their stories only occurs with very few.”
Martin could not remember of any other SNAP client that had their story written in a national publication.
“SNAP is usually a very anonymous organization,” according to Martin. “While this story is extraordinary, we normally receive our satisfaction from the smile we get from each client.”
Pam Roberts is available for interviews. Contact Ron Hardin for details.
