I’m having financial problems. Can you make my mortgage payment for me?
Generally not, the Mortgage Assistance Program does not typically receive funding to pay for ongoing house payments. MAP is not a financial assistance program like SNAP Energy Assistance Program. However, SNAP counselors may be able to help by referring eligible households to other resources.
What should I do if I have received a Notice of Default or a Foreclosure Sale Notice?
Contact a Mortgage Assistance Program counselor at 456-7106 immediately.
Can I buy a HUD home from SNAP?
No. We are a HUD approved counseling agency but we do not sell homes for HUD. To buy a HUD home you will need to find a participating real estate agent. HUD homes are sold through a bidding process and your real estate agent must submit your bid for you. HUD homes are sold at market value – not for a dollar.
Can you lend me enough money to buy a home if I have bad credit?
With or without bad credit SNAP is unable to lend you enough to buy a home. We are not a full service lending institution. Our mortgage assistance is limited to $15,000. As for your credit issues, it is important that you begin working on clearing things up right away because the sooner you put the bad credit behind you the sooner you will be able to purchase a home. Contact one of our counselors to find out how to get started.
Can you help me with a down payment?
We do administer a Downpayment Assistance Program but it requires that you invest 3% of the purchase price from you own savings. Then you may be eligible for additional funds through a matched funds savings program. Contact a Mortgage Assistance Program counselor for more information.
Can I obtain a loan from SNAP to buy a home?
You may be able to obtain a loan from SNAP for a small part of the home purchase. Check this website for Downpayment Assistance Program loans.
I want to know how do I get started in buying a home?
Buying a home can be confusing. Many answers to home purchase questions can be obtained by attending a Homebuyer Education Class. To register for a class at SNAP call 456-7106 or to view class schedules throughout Washington go to: http://www.wshfc.org/buyers/key.htm
How do I contact a Mortgage Assistance Counselor?
Call 456-7106 and give the operator a phone number where you can be reached, tell the operator what you need or describe to them your concerns. A housing counselor will call you back and answer your questions or schedule an appointment.
