This program helps you prepare for homeownership through a combination of classes and personal counseling.
Counseling
- Counseling is available to all homeowners in eastern Washington.
- Counseling by phone can be arranged for homeowners outside the Spokane area or for those requesting a reasonable accommodation.
SNAP counselors:
- help households identify and overcome barriers to homeownership
- determine eligibility
- make referrals to a variety of homeownership programs.

Classes
Homebuyer Education Classes prepare the prospective homebuyer for the home purchase process and review the responsibilities of homeownership. Classes are divided into two sessions, which are held on two weekday evenings for 2.5 hours each. Tuition and textbooks are provided free of charge.
Upon class completion, a certificate is issued for qualifying households, which enables them to obtain reduced interest-rate loans and participate in a variety of housing assistance programs.

Eligibility for Pre-Purchase Counseling and Homebuyer Education Classes
- Counseling and classes are available to all residents of eastern Washington.
- You must pre-register for classes by calling 456-7106.
Counseling by phone can be arranged for households outside the Spokane area or those requesting reasonable accommodation.
You will need to bring the following to your counseling appointment:
- Verification of all household income (pay stubs, award letters, etc.)
- Documentation of household expenses and debts (bank statements, monthly bills, etc.)
Other documentation may be requested.
