Travelers' Assistance funds are available for residents of Spokane County to help with family and medical emergencies. Travelers' Assistance funds are allocated by United Way and used to:

  • purchase bus tickets to funerals of immediate family members, or for travel to another city for surgeries or custody hearings.
  • refer stranded travelers and relocation requests to other resources.
  • issue gas vouchers for travel when emergency has been verified

In these instances, clients also are offered the telephone for long-distance calls to friends or family for help.

In all cases, emergencies must be verifiable, by fax from a hospital social worker, for instance, or a phone call to the funeral home.

To receive assistance, contact our Downtown Office at 456-7164.
